Surrealism art movement and cinema

 

These are part of  surrealism art design. This kind of art stated from 1921 by Andrew Barton and his friend in new York.

 

Andrew created this kind of art as a new idea to 1920 as a new modern art which people called that as the art revolutionary in the time. Surrealism and poetic art come tighter with artists. surrealism show the art which it come from real life. surrealism give opportunity to  every one to drew as they want without the limitation and following the specific roles.

 

Artist invented this art to broke the taboos and traditions to art attitude which in 1920 art just has been for one part of community. In that time art has been for reach family not for everyone. So this would have been a big revolution in art to cape against this traditions.

 

Surrealism and poetic art say you can draw as a art anything(object) that is round you and it says about the dream art and drawing what is s dreamy shape in your mind. So you can compose those together and create the beauty which part of that exist in the our life and part of that is dream which design it and attract the human soul to the art.

 

cinema

Salvador dolly is one of artist that made the first surreal poetic mode film in 1924. He properly got inspiration from Andrew Barton and his friend in that time or properly they had relationship to with each other by following the surrealism art and cinema.

 

As we know Slvador Dolly is much more famous as a painting artist than a cinema artist and he has a lots of brilliant art work( painting)work.

He composed the surrealism art ant poetic art about the life and any think is around human same as Andrew Barton but he created new art in the cinema and he represented in the film.

 

Surrealism has been black and white which it could be as a coloury film in our time. Black and white still is using because it gives feeling of reality and surrealism is recognised as black and white.

 

poetic mode give poetry feeling to the film watcher to forget the horror and  basically the world

problems and make their mind closer to the world beauty to berried from violence and danger.

Poetic mode usually become as the poetic story in the film or it is used by voice over.

Music sound is really important in the poetic mode for matching the potage with sound to attracte  the reality or dreamy feeling to audience to be with your film story.

 

I got these book from the college library  and I got information as well to explain about the

The Surrealist artists sought to channel the unconscious as a means to unlock the power of the imagination. Disdaining rationalism and literary realism, and powerfully influenced by psychoanalysis, the Surrealists believed the rational mind repressed the power of the imagination, weighting it down with taboos. Influenced also by Karl Marx, they hoped that the psyche had the power to reveal the contradictions in the everyday world and spur on revolution. Their emphasis on the power of personal imagination puts them in the tradition of Romanticism, but unlike their forbears, they believed that revelations could be found on the street and in everyday life. The Surrealist impulse to tap the unconscious mind, and their interests in myth and primitivism, went on to shape many later movements, and the style remains influential to this today

·         Talk about your Brain storms

For this project I put all the thing I have learnt in last past few month on the brain storm. I tried to consider the whole things as a short film needs such as film researches (primary and secondary) , short film element,  film story, locations, shooting elements (shots, wide shot, long shot, close up) , 

Editing process (import editing, export), film genre (documentary), and film mode (poetic mode, surreal black and white).

I first did some researched about my genre because it was a new genre. I was going to be more familiar with this new genre and it elements and then started to do my brain storm. I did my survey to my audience after that.

• Initial research

I researched about the genre for this project (documentary genre). I had few different kinds of genre which were related to each other so I researched in the YouTube and google. I first researched about documentary genre then poetic surreal mode.

•  Primary and secondary research 

• primary research

I did my primary research by going to few places in Nottingham and take pictures and do examination shots from  my locations. I went to Arburtorn park few time and I did shooting from my locations(from nature, from birds and flowers). I went to see the my location and I made shore this is location which it is going to be match with my genre (poetic surreal genre).

secondly I went to the brush mark car parking. I went to the a little office and I got permission from the back of the car park building. I filmed from  the back of car park building to the side of the broad marsh street.

I went to the town and I filmed from public (from people). I also filmed from few other locations as example which they were for my primary research.


Secondary research
I researched about my genre  from internet first . i researched about documentary genre from google and you tube. I researched by using the library books.
Then I reached about the Poetic mode and surreal mode from google and from the book which they exist in the college library. I red the books it was about the black and white cinema and the first director which they had made the surrealism film in the Paris, they are the Salvador dally(painter artist)  and Luis Bunuel  his colleague.

I  did my survey by asking from audience the what is their interest(psychographic) about the documentary  genre.



surreal mode
I researched about surreal mode from you tube and i watched few films. I understood meaning of art movement that is the first kind surreal mode (black and white).

poetic mode
I researched about poetic mode from google. poetic mode and surreal mode are link to each other in same time inventing. This has been a controversial genre in 1920 since it become part of cinema.

• Schedule

I think I could follow the schedule time step by step in this project but I changed my genre and I made a new proposal and I tried to adapt the last one to new one.

• Proposal

After the research I made a proposal for a Documentary (a poetic surreal mode). I was going to make a short documentary, later I added two other new kinds of mode with it. I wrote my proposal with documentary contents. I mentioned the genre, technical element, locations, locations and other things a short film needs.

·         Discuss what was helpful

It was helpful to know the kind of research. About the primary research and secondary research. Primary research and secondary research was helpful. I researched about the Salvador Dali work and some Iranian director as the primary research. I went to different locations in the town to see and photograph from the locations and they were helpful as well.

I am able to write  screen story as I did in my last project(green screen project). I am confident to imagine the genre and character which they want to play in a film. I can create story.

 

·         what was  helpful and not

I think for this project it was important that everything look more professional. I think I was able to understand what I am going to do. I researched about the documentary genre. I researched about the poetic surreal mode which this genre relates to the documentary genre. I could understand about the history of this genre. I could understand about the kind of art and art movement. I understood about the poetic mode as the new modern art which made a big revolution in the 20 century by the inventions of Salvador Dali and his friends.

I think there was not enough or good information about the poetic surreal mode in the internet or properly I could not find the good information. I tried from college library as well there were
good book but they looked like a little old.
I tried to see some poetic film from internet( YouTube) and that was helpful. I watched the Taste of cherry.

 

• What type of research did you do?

I did the primary research and secondary research. I researched the secondary research first from the internet (google and YouTube) and then researched from outside in my locations as the primary research. My locations were in the Nottingham town centre and TV studio in the college.

 

• How did this impact on your work.

It was helpful because I knew about documentary genre but I did know much about the poetic mode and surreal mode. I realised they are the part of the cinema art which are related to each other.

 

• Who is our target audience and how you ensured your piece is appropriate and appealing to them?

My target audience are students. Their ages are between   the   16   to 20. To find out who are my audience I put my questions in the survey and a got a response from them. I asked them a demographic and psychographic questions,

         ·         Demographic I asked their ages and who are living with. I wanted to know who is going              to be watching my short film. 

•          Psychographic

I asked them about their interest. I asked what they are going to choice for their final major project like photography, film producing, graphic, animations and other parts.

 

•      How did you produce your work?

First of all I researched about my genre (Poetic mode, surreal mode).

 

I researched about the different films which have been made in the 1920 to 1940.


I did my primary research and also secondary research.

 

I mentioned my idea on the paper in a brainstorm.  I wrote about the idea and how I could develop it into a short film.

After that I put my proposal in the blog.  I mentioned the film genre, film element and kind of shots.

 

I chose my locations which part of them was in the college and one of them was in the TV studio in the college.

 

When I finished my filming, I put all of my work in the Adobe premiere cc and I started to edit. I was going to make a kind of black and white short film (poetic surreal short film) for this project so I turned my video to black and white first.

I added the transition effect (cross dissolve, deep to black, and credit).

 

I recorded my voice from the TV studio in the recording room. I imported my audio voices to the my editing window  source sound and then I edited my sound by adding  over to my music sound.

I added music sound to my editing and also I edited them to the film story.

 

I had good and enough experience for this project. I had enough experience for filming and editing so I felt more confident. I think it was really helpful when I knew enough about all the parts of the process of making a short film and it helped me to work properly.

 

                     I used the adobe premiere cc for this project.  I used the effect translon.

                      I made poetic surreal short film for this project.

                       I used the transition effect, I used the tint to change the video to black and white.

                       I exported my work when I finished my editing.

       

                      I like this project because I think I was confident to work with the camera and editing.        

I think I could do better work for this project but I am satisfied about my work.

I would use a different genre and I would use the actors in my film.

 

I was confident to work independently. I was confident to make a plan to be creative, to use the different shots to edit and make my work good.

 

I followed my proposal for this project however I changed my idea one time. I followed the schedule but I think I could be us a schedule.

My conclude from feedback

For this project I was going to make a documentary short  film. I was going to make a short documentary film about the homelessness and homeless people. in during the time I was looking for a actor or actress but no body accepted in the class to be as a player for a homeless role . 

When I discussed  about my final major short film subject whit tutor she said homeless issue is a sensitive issue.

I thought about the poetic mode genre and I decided to make a surreal poetic documentary about the part of my life story in the UK. When I was making this short film and looked the around, I felt I am looks like a little mezrible person in this short film as the main of subject . I thought it was better to make a short poetic film but about the other subject no about  my life because it is embracing a little.

I made my short poetic surreal documentary about the kind of questions which had in my mind and finished it eventually.

when I finished my short film, I represented to my audience (students) and I got some feed back from them. 

When they were watching my short film, I asked them about the my short film story and its features. It got some remarkable reaction from two of them which it make a controversial thing in my mind  and I thought about it a lot. 

One of them said is your short film story a fiction?

It was remarkable for me when  heard this. It remained me my first idea which was about the homelessness and homeless people . In that time I was  thinking  to make a short film about homeless people because I though the society (my audience ) mind is far from this issue and forget it . I wanted to feature this issue somehow. I thought their is big gap between the homeless people and even ordinary people(middle class).I thought however people are accepted which homelessness  is part of society problem this days but they think that is not their issue and homeless people are too far from their life.

This feedback from one of students remained me my pervious idea. I think their is a similarity between the my second idea which it is about my life and  the first idea that it was about the homelessness.

 

It was interesting for me and I learned a new thing after this project. I suggest there are a lots of issues in the society and people are far from them.

 

I am tray  to say properly majority of people think all of hard issues In the society is possibly kinds of fiction. They properly just hear from news everyday or observe in the society( in the street). I mean they can not feel it because they have never experienced those .

most of people think, we should be looking after our life so this make a huge gap between people mind with who they are involved in the problems.

My consequence: 

I am happy to show part of my life story however I wasn't, because I think this short film would give more information to the audience to remind them there are a lots of realistic issue around us but we just cross it everyday and they become as fiction because it has been repeating  without the solutions for them.

My genre for this short film was poetic surreal documentary.

Documentary poetic surreal 

For this project I used different genre for making a short film. As I wanted to make this kind of  photographed from area which it related to the my genre.
I shot from the locations which they are more natural and they match to the a documentary genre.
I had variety  of shots from city such as street,cars,people,park and other locations.

 Poetic surreal
When I decided to make documentary I added the poetic surreal to my genre as well.
Poetic mode is part  documentary that match to the the my genre film to make it  poetic.
I used the voice over the my video by recording the my voice in the recording room.I wrote a poetic script and record my voice.
Surreal show is a linear  reality of  life in the documentary genre. It is  black and white to show the feeling of reality  to the audience. It was appropriate for me to use this mode for my short film,
m.

To make a short surreal poet documentary I edited  my video differently for this project. I did my Scheldet edit first.I turned my video to the Black and white by using the tint. dragged and dropped each of them on the my short videos which I imported.
I added the translation between to the my video shots. I added the cross devolve, cross  devolve.

When I finished translation I added the voice over the my short film. I add my voice by the dividing
them. I added the my voice and matched them on the video that suppose to be step by step.
The voice which i used over the my short documentary video represent the kind of surreal film in the documentary In this point am saying the reality of the life.



I change my videos to black and white by clicking on the creative then moving the shadow tint and highlight tint.

 After that I added  a music background sound. This background sound is kind of emotional music that will impresses the  audience by be mixed  with  my voice and the different parts of videos .
I choose a piano music to be a more poetic stuff and close to a reality genre.The background music is linear and without the any stop.

I worked on the my voice over the videos. I spited the my voice from step by step with context.
I changed the my voice tune to higher with choosing the

I added the credit to my video at the end of my work .I added the credit  for representing my short poetic documentary name at the beginning of my short film. I added my the credit for end of my short film. I added the producer name, the locations name and kind of genre that was used for this project.
I used a different title for this short film that I though it is more attamped to  poetic mode.
