Witches characters research in the films

The witches characters in films

Witchcraft (also called witchery or spellcraft) broadly means the practice of, and belief in, magical skills and abilities that are able to be exercised by individuals and certain social groups. Witchcraft is a complex concept that varies culturally and societally; therefore, it is difficult to define with precision[1] and cross-cultural assumptions about the meaning or significance of the term should be applied with caution. Witchcraft often occupies a religious, divinatory or medicinal role,[2] and is often present within societies and groups whose cultural framework includes a magical world view.[1] Although witchcraft can often share common ground with related concepts such as sorcery, the paranormalmagicsuperstitionnecromancypossessionshamanismhealingspiritualismnature worship and the occult, it is usually seen as distinct from these when examined by sociologists and anthropologists. It is said to have been an ancient religion.

Into the Woods

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article is about the musical play. For other uses, see Into the Woods (disambiguation).

Into the Woods is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. The musical intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault fairy tales, exploring the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests. The main characters are taken from "Little Red Riding Hood", "Jack and the Beanstalk", "Rapunzel", and "Cinderella", as well as several others. The musical is tied together by a story involving a childless baker and his wife and their quest to begin a family (the original beginning of The Grimm Brothers' Rapunzel), their interaction with a witch who has placed a curse on them, and their interaction with other storybook characters during their journey.
The musical debuted in San Diego at the Old Globe Theatre in 1986 and premiered on Broadway on November 5, 1987, where it won several Tony Awards, including Best ScoreBest Book, and Best Actress in a Musical (Joanna Gleason), in a year dominated byThe Phantom of the Opera (1988). The musical has since been produced many times, with a 1988 US national tour, a 1990 West End production, a 1997 tenth anniversary concert, a 2002 Broadway revival, a 2010 London revival[1] and in 2012 as part of New York City's outdoor Shakespeare in the Park series.
Disney film adaptation directed by Rob Marshall and starring Meryl StreepEmily BluntJames CordenAnna KendrickChris Pine,Tracey UllmanChristine Baranski and Johnny Depp was released in 2014. The film grossed over $213 million worldwide[2] and received three Academy Award nominations and three Golden Globe Award nominations.

A Baker and his Wife wish for a child but suffer under a curse laid upon the Baker's family by a (Witch) who found the Baker's father robbing her garden when his mother was pregnant. The Baker's father also stole some beans which caused the Witch's mother to punish her with the curse of ugliness. (The Witch offers to lift the curse, but only if the Baker and his Wife obtain four critical items for her: a cow as white as milk, a cape as red as blood, the hair as yellow as corn, and a slipper as pure as gold )The Witch later tells the Baker that she asked him to do this task for her because she is not allowed to touch any of the objects.

The Witch's demands eventually bring the Baker and his Wife into contact with Jack, who is selling his beloved cow Milky-White and to whom the Baker offers magic beans left him by his father (which were stolen from the Witch) which grow into a large beanstalk; with Red Riding Hood, whose ruby cape the couple notices when she stops to buy sweets on her way to grandmother's house; with Rapunzel, whose tower the Baker's Wife passes in the woods; and with Cinderella, who also runs into the Baker's Wife while fleeing from the pursuing Prince.
After a series of failed attempts and misadventures, the Baker and his Wife finally are able to gather the items necessary to break the spell. Meanwhile, each of the other characters receive their "happy endings": Cinderella marries the Prince; Jack provides for his mother by stealing riches from the Giant in the sky, and kills the pursuing Giant by cutting down the beanstalk; Little Red Riding Hood and her Grandmother are saved from the Big Bad Wolf; and the Witch regains her youth and beauty after drinking the potion.
However, each of the characters learns their "happily ever after" is not so happy: the Baker is worried he is a poor father to his newborn baby; the Baker's Wife is temporarily seduced by the Prince; Cinderella is disenchanted by the cheating Prince; and the (Witch learns that she has lost her powers with her restored youth and beauty. )The growth of a second beanstalk from the last remaining magic bean allows the Giant's Wife to climb down and threaten the kingdom and its inhabitants if they do not deliver Jack in retribution for killing her husband. The characters debate the morality of handing Jack over. In the process, Red Riding Hood's Mother and Grandmother, Jack's Mother, and the Baker's Wife are killed. The characters blame each other for their individual actions that lead to the tragedy, ultimately blaming the Witch for raising the beans in the first place. She curses them for their inability to accept their individual responsibilities and disappears into the ground, summoning a large pit of boiling tar in the process.
The remaining characters resolve to kill the threatening Giant's Wife, though Cinderella and the Baker try to explain to the distraught Red Riding Hood and Jack the complicated morality of retribution and revenge. The characters lure the Giant's Wife into stepping in the tar pit where she ultimately trips and falls to her death. The Giant's Wife is killed, and the characters move forward with their ruined lives. The Baker, thinking of his Wife, is determined to be a good father. Cinderella decides to leave the Prince and help the Baker, and Jack and Red Riding Hood, now orphans, are living with the Baker and Cinderella. The Baker comforts his son after he begins to cry by telling a story as the movie ends with the Witch's moral, meaning that children can change due to the parent's actions and behaviors.

(In this film witches is one of main film's character which she want to revenge from a bakers and his wife. She curse a couple  that they wish to have a child. Witches says baker's(man) father stolen her mother garden and a magic beans from her garden  .It effect on her because her mother was pregnant in that time.
She says her mother punished her because of  baker's father garden robbing  by cursing  her as an ugly person .
The withes gave them an offer to deal with the couple. She offer  to the couple by  request  four thing;
a cow as white as milk colour. A yellow  hair  colour same as a corn colour. A slipper as pure as gold and a cape by red colour same as blood colour.
Couple try to collect few thing which the witches requested by dealing with friend and other people.
At the end couple could  bring all the items that witches was wanted. Withes restore her beauty , but she  become regret latter because she has lost her magic power as a witches.

Warner Bros.
Not that they said it much, or at all, to anyone. But they were proud all the same.

2. Proud, that is, until their daughter, Hermione, wiped all trace of her existence from their memory.

Warner Bros.
It was act born not of spite or rebellion, but of love.

3. Though it pained her beyond measure to do it, Hermione was in the midst of a war, and she was trying to protect her parents from harm.

Warner Bros.
To make sure they were completely safe, she shipped them off to Australia, where nothing dangerous ever happens.

4. Hermione had been doxxed by supporters of the cause she’d been fighting against for years: The Patriarchy.

Warner Bros.
The Patriarchy’s first mistake had been to assume that women were somehow lesser. Their second mistake was to fuck with Hermione Granger.

5. Now bitches gonna die.

Daniel Dalton / BuzzFeed
The theme music is Taylor Swift. Because why the fuck not.

6. Six years earlier, Hermione first boarded the Hogwarts Express, excited to make friends and finally be valued for her talents, rather than teased for being different.

Warner Bros.
“Hello, I’m Hermione Granger. Is that seat taken?”

7. “I’m Harry, Harry Potter.”

Warner Bros.
“And sorry, this carriage is for boys only.”

8. It was in that moment that Hermione first learned a valuable skill.

Warner Bros.
Throwing shade.

9. Of course, she’d heard of Harry Potter, as all witches and wizards had, and couldn’t believe he of all people would say something so silly.

Warner Bros.
“I’ve read all the rules – there’s no such thing as a boys-only carriage.”

10. “Do you know who that is? That’s Harry Potter. The Boy Who Lived.”

Warner Bros.
“And he just said boys only, are you deaf or what?”

11. “It’s funny you should say that, because I’m Hermione Granger, The Girl Who Gave Literally Zero Fucks.”

Warner Bros.
“And I sit wherever I damn well please.”

12. At Hogwarts, Hermione tried making friends.

Warner Bros.
“I fucking love books.”

13. But not everyone was interested in knowledge.

Warner Bros.
“Alright gorgeous, wanna see my wand?”

14. She did not want to see his wand. She couldn’t think of anything she’d like to see less.

Warner Bros.
Boy wizards were just the worst.

15. Case in point: She tried her best to be helpful to Ron Weasley, but was shunned for it.

Warner Bros.
What. An. Idiot.

16. It wasn’t just the boy wizards either. Grown-up wizards were equally terrible.

Warner Bros.
Professor Snape completely ignored her in favour of the boys in the class.

17. Hermione did not like being ignored, nor did she like institutional gender bias.

Warner Bros.
So she set that bitch on fire.

18. Her badass antics attracted the attention of Ron and Harry, who decided they wanted her in the gang.

Warner Bros.
“You are fierce and independent and that scares us. Also you set a dude on fire. Will you be in our gang, please?”

19. Despite their vaguely offensive ways, Hermione sensed that Ron and Harry weren’t so bad, even if their strut game needed work.

Warner Bros.
“Bitch, I’m fabulous.”

20. Over the course of the year, she saved Harry and Ron several times.

Warner Bros.
Without Hermione, The Boy Who Lived would be dead as shit.

21. And when Harry legit murdered a dude, Hermione stood by him and tried not to judge.

Warner Bros.
Harry had issues, yes. But who didn’t.

22. In second year, while others floundered, Hermione continued to excel.

Warner Bros.
Even though she’d read that women are less likely to speak up in classrooms, Hermione gave literally zero fucks for socially mandated gender roles.

23. Time and again, she proved how badass she was.

Warner Bros.
When Cornish blue pixies were released in the classroom and proceeded to wreak havoc, who was it who saved the day? Not the fucking teacher, that’s for sure.

24. But there were still obstacles.

Warner Bros.
“You still running around with Potter? I’ll show you what a real wizard is.”

25. “With that wand?”

Warner Bros.
“I doubt it.”

26. “Dirty witch.”

Warner Bros.
“Go make me a sandwich.”

27. Hermione didn’t let Draco see her cry, but his words hurt.

Warner Bros.
It wasn’t that she couldn’t deal with teasing, it was that he’d made her feel like an object, a thing, and she understood that no matter how clever she was, or how good at magic, she’d never be more than that to Draco and people like him.

28. Even her friends were ignoring her cleverness, it seemed.

Warner Bros.
Like when she risked her life to discover what was petrifying students around Hogwarts, and it took them ages to realise she was holding the answer the whole time.

29. And when they finally figured it out and defeated the Basilisk, it was Harry and Ron who got all the credit.

Warner Bros.
Still, she was happy for them. They were friends, after all, and they had been so brave, and friendship and bravery were more important than books and cleverness, right?

30. In third year, Harry was still getting all the praise, all the opportunity. By virtue of being born, it seemed.

Warner Bros.
It’s not that he was dim, he just didn’t have to try. Most of the time it felt like he was being carried by incredible privilege. Sometimes literally.

31. Hermione was working twice as hard as everyone else. And still the teachers shunned her.

Warner Bros.
“Tell me, Miss Granger, are you incapable of restraining yourself, or do you take pride in being an insufferable know-it-all?”

32. She was finding it hard to hold back.

Warner Bros.
“I’ll take pride in setting you the fuck on fire again, how about that?”

33. Harry and Ron had begun to think of Hermione as a sister, and felt protective toward her.

Warner Bros.
But sister or not, she didn’t need them to protect her.

34. Especially when Draco Hair Gel was involved.

Warner Bros.
“Hermione… Nice hoodie. It’d look even better on the floor of the Slytherin dorms.”

35. “What did you say to me? Go on, say that again.”

Warner Bros.
“It was a compliment, I swear. It was just a compliment.”

36. “Yeah? Well so’s this.”

Warner Bros.
Twitter wasn’t around in those days, but if it was, she’d have just invented the #BossWitch hashtag.

37. And despite valuing knowledge above all, part of her couldn’t help but enjoy how flawless she looked while knocking Draco Hair Gel the fuck out.

Warner Bros.
“What? I woke up like this.”

38. It was clear that she was the one who was protecting Harry and Ron, and this was never more evident than when she revealed she could control time.

Warner Bros.
She’d been using her Time-Turner to attend twice the number of classes, but she agreed to use it to help Harry save his godfather, even though it meant she’d never be able to use it again.

39. She’d given up her greatest power for her best friend, because helping people made her feel good.

Warner Bros.
And though she hoped he understood the sacrifice she was making by letting her education slide, she knew he didn’t. Because men.

40. Boys her age only seemed to understand one thing.

Warner Bros.
How much fun it was to play with their broomsticks.

41. So she was happy when fourth year rolled around.

Warner Bros.
And brought with it the Tri-Wizard tournament and Bulgarian bombshell Viktor Krum.

42. More than happy. Excited. Ecstatic even. Positively quivering with anticipation.

Warner Bros.
After years of boys, finally a man. And what a man.

43. It wasn’t long before Viktor noticed Hermione.

Warner Bros.
*swoon*

44. And Hermione noticed Viktor noticing her.

Warner Bros.
Their flirting was really next level stuff.

45. With the dance approaching, Ron joked that Hermione probably didn’t have a date. She was not amused.

Warner Bros.
“I am fucking glorious. Of course I have a date.”

46. Viktor Krum had asked her to the dance, and the pair looked resplendent.

Warner Bros.
The Daily Prophet, mouthpiece of The Patriarchy and not a paper with much in the way of moral fibre, wrote that “Hermione was all grown-up”.

47. Ron was more than a little jealous and asked Hermione to dance, but she didn’t want to.

Warner Bros.
“Why are you dressed like that if you don’t want attention, eh?”

48. “Ron, you idiot! How dare you. How fucking dare you!”

Warner Bros.
“I didn’t dress like this for Viktor, or for you, or for anyone. I dressed up for me. Don’t you get it? For me. So I could feel good. And you’ve ruined it!”

49. Ron tried to apologise, but it was too late, and he didn’t really understand what he was apologising for.

Warner Bros.
It was more clear to Hermione than ever that this was a wizard’s world, and she was just another witch.

50. Trying to repair the damage, Harry apologised on Ron’s behalf.

Warner Bros.
“He said he’s sorry. Ron’s a nice guy, not like Draco. He didn’t mean to hurt you.”

51. “That’s the problem, Harry. He didn’t think what he was saying was wrong.”

Warner Bros.
“And it’s not just Ron and Draco I have to worry about. It’s all wizards.”

52. “Not all wizards, though. Right?”

Warner Bros.
“Yes all wizards, Harry.”

53. “Not all witches feel that way though, surely.”

Warner Bros.
“Yes all witches. All witches have had to put up with comments like that, and worse.”

54. “But that’s… That’s impossible. If what you’re saying is true, that every witch feels threatened by every wizard, then…”

Warner Bros.
“I just can’t believe it.”

55. Fireworks were exploding in Hermione’s brain. Her heart was pounding. She was furious.

Fireworks were exploding in Hermione’s brain. Her heart was pounding. She was furious.
Warner Bros.
If she couldn’t get Harry, her most reasonable, supportive male friend, to understand, then she may as well give up.

56. But then the Dark Wizard Voldemort returned.

Warner Bros.
“Surprise, bitches!”

57. And summoned his Death Eaters, including Draco’s dad, Luscious Locks, to update him on their plan.

Warner Bros.
“We’re not oppressing all witches quite yet, my lord. But soon. Soon.”

58. Harry witnessed the whole thing.

Warner Bros.
He couldn’t believe his ears.

59. Harry managed to escape. But his world had changed forever.

Warner Bros.
“It’s The Patriarchy, it’s real. It’s really real!”

60. Harry apologised to Hermione.

Warner Bros.
“You were right. I’m so sorry. Yes all witches.”

61. Hermione forgave Ron, realising he, too, was a victim of The Patriarchy.

Warner Bros.
“When you grow up in a culture that allows wizards to speak to witches that way, how are you supposed to know that it’s wrong? But do it again and I’ll cut you.”

62. Krum asked Hermione to write, but she was kind of over her Bulgarian phase.

Warner Bros.
Krum was a physical being. He valued looks, not books, and Hermione longed for conversation and intellectual stimulation. But it was fun while it lasted.

63. Fifth year at Hogwarts heralded the arrival of the pinkest evil of all, Dolores Umbridge.

Warner Bros.
Some witches just want to watch the world burn.

64. Professor McGonagall confronted Umbridge, and revealed herself to be quite the boss witch.

Warner Bros.
“Hurt my students again, and I’ll fuck up your shit.”

65. While Harry was too sad to do anything, Hermione came up with a plan.

Warner Bros.
“We need to train ourselves to fight The Patriarchy. Who’s in?”

66. Rebellion was a suit she’d not worn much, and she liked it.

Warner Bros.
“It’s sort of exciting, isn’t it. Breaking the rules. Destroying the joint.”

67. They commenced training in secret. Hermione let Harry take the lead on teaching, to help boost his confidence.

Warner Bros.
It turned out Ron’s sister Ginny was pretty badass, and Hermione was glad to have another capable, independent witch around.

68. Hermione was the first of the students, other than Harry, to conjure a Patronus.

Warner Bros.
Harry had first conjured a Patronus two years earlier, while standing atop his lofty mountain of privilege.

69. But Umbridge, there to ensure nobody questioned The Patriarchy, hunted down their secret training room.

Warner Bros.
“And before you start, Miss Granger, this is not about sexism. It’s about ethics in magic teaching.”

70. When confronted, Dumbledore did what Dumbledore did best.

Warner Bros.
Left teenagers to deal with everything.

71. It didn’t help that Harry was making terrible decisions.

Warner Bros.
“Let’s murder that bitch.”

72. Hermione convinced him not to. Then he decided to go rescue Sirius from the Ministry of Magic.

Warner Bros.
“But what if it’s a trap?”

73. It was totally a trap.

Warner Bros.
Sigh.

74. It was Luscious Locks and fellow soldier of The Patriarchy Bellatrix Lestrange.

Warner Bros.
She was the kind of witch Hermione liked least. One who was interested in keeping The Patriarchy as it was because it suited her interests.

75. Ginny, being a badass, destroyed the joint.

Warner Bros.
Hermione was eternally thankful that somebody knew what they were doing.

76. Unlike Harry, who had no idea what he was doing.

Warner Bros.
He was impulsive and a bad listener, and he got Sirius killed.

77. Despite this, and that brown corduroy blazer, the rest of the group still looked to Harry for answers.

Warner Bros.
At least there was a group, Hermione thought. It could be worse.

78. She’d grown quite fond of her two best friends.

Warner Bros.
She wondered if in an alternate universe, there was a Hogwarts School full of children who didn’t have to worry about The Patriarchy.

79. She even helped Ron make the Quidditch team with a little well-timed magic.

Warner Bros.
Ron didn’t have much in the way of natural talent, but she appreciated his commitment to his friends. He was the kind of person she didn’t mind giving extra help in life.

80. Unlike Johnny Privilege himself, Harry James Potter, who had found himself a book full of potion cheat codes.

Warner Bros.
The last thing he needed was another helping hand. Hermione warned him about using the book, but did he listen?

81. No, he didn’t.

Warner Bros.
And he almost killed Draco with a spell from it.

82. In retaliation, Draco joined The Patriarchy.

Warner Bros.
“Why should witches get all the benefits, huh? Wizards are the ones who are really being persecuted. Misandry is what it is. Misandry!”

83. Snape also outed himself as a member of The Patriarchy.

Warner Bros.
And then he killed Dumbledore.

84. “Well, I suppose I had this coming.”

Warner Bros.
“Severus, sever me.”

85. Now the most powerful wizard in the world was dead.

Warner Bros.
And that brings us back to where we started.

86. The fight against The Patriarchy was beginning in earnest.

Warner Bros.
Hermione was nervous. She was a thinker, not a fighter. How was she supposed to fight a war?

87. Harry, however, had no such doubts. He had a plan and everything.

Warner Bros.
“We’re going to hang out in the woods for three to five months or so.”

88. “Three to five months?”

Warner Bros.
“Are you sure you know what you’re doing?”

89. “Of course I know what I’m doing. I’m Harry Potter. There’s a prophecy about me and everything.”

Warner Bros.
“We’re going to wait here, and then when the time is right, we’ll go back to Hogwarts and destroy the joint, etc.”

90. But all that walking around in the woods made Ron lose his shit.

Warner Bros.
“Sorry, but I just don’t understand. Witches and wizards are equal already. It’s not like it’s the 1950s. It’s not like anyone is burning witches these days. You want to oppress wizards, is that it? You want all the power, don’t you!”

91. Ron left, despite Hermione trying to appeal to his sense of reason.

Warner Bros.
“This isn’t about having more, Ron. It’s about being equal. Witches and wizards don’t have the same rights and opportunities. Why won’t you understand?”

92. Hermione, who had been singlehandedly responsible for their survival with her badass wilderness skills, took solace in her first true love: books.

Warner Bros.
“Sometimes I think I should have been a Ravenclaw, you know? I think I’d look pretty fucking darling in blue.”

93. The weeks dragged by, and Hermione was beginning to regret letting Harry choose the plan.

Warner Bros.
And then Ron came back.

94. “I finally understand. It’s not just some witches, but all witches, who are subject to broad and pervasive sexism everywhere they go, every day.”

Warner Bros.
“Once you see it, you can’t help but see it. It’s like we’re living in a patriarchal dystopia. Surrounded by prejudice and oppression. And trees.”

95. “Are you fucking kidding me, Ron Weasley! I’ve been telling you this for years.”

Warner Bros.
“And now you get it. Now. Wasn’t it enough when I was telling you?”

96. With Ron back, and after months of wandering around forests, Hermione finally took charge. She was ready.

Warner Bros.
“Let’s go fuck up their shit.”

97. Hermione had a plan. While Harry distracted everyone with his…Harryness…she snuck the entire Order of the Phoenix into Hogwarts.

Warner Bros.
And she saved Harry and Ron’s lives at least three times on the way there. How many was that now? She’d lost count.

98. McGonagall fought off Snape, and in her first act as Hogwarts Headmaster, activated the defences.

Warner Bros.
“I’ve always wanted to use that spell. And be free of patriarchal oppression.”

99. Sensing this might be her last night on earth, Hermione kissed Ron.

Warner Bros.
She didn’t have time to explain that this was not a binding contract guaranteeing a future involving marriage and children. Sometimes a kiss was just that.

100. Draco was still trying to make this all about him.

Warner Bros.
“Witches get a free ride, it’s wizards like me who suffer. Where’s my special treatment? Where’s my kiss? I deserve a kiss. It’s misandry I tell you.”

101. “Misandry? It’s not even a word!”

Warner Bros.
“Don’t misinterpret your feelings of inadequacy for the cultural, social, economic, and political oppression of an entire gender. Feeling personally maligned does not a wider prejudice make.”

102. Draco didn’t listen, so Hermione shut him down the best way she knew how.

Warner Bros.
She set that bitch on fire.

103. Outside, things had escalated somewhat.

Warner Bros.
The Battle of Hogwarts had begun.

104. Hermione broke the bad news to Harry: For the plan to work, he’d have to die.

Warner Bros.
“Sorry, bro.”

105. With Harry dead, Voldemort marched up to Hogwarts.

Warner Bros.
“Harry Potter is dead. Long live The Patriarchy.”

106. But Hermione wasn’t done yet.

Warner Bros.
“Not so fast, cockface.”

107. “The Girl Who Gave Literally Zero Fucks, we meet at last.”

Warner Bros.
“You’re too late. We win.”

108. “You know, I used to hate you, but now I pity you.”

Warner Bros.
“You don’t hate witches. You hate yourself. That’s what this is really about.”

109. Harry was alive the whole time!

Warner Bros.
So much privilege, that boy. Even death gave him a pass.

110. Hermione told Harry to keep Voldemort distracted.

Warner Bros.
Harry was OK with this, as he had zero problem being centre of attention all the fucking time.

111. Meanwhile, Bellatrix tried to kill Ginny.

Warner Bros.
Bellatrix was the kind of witch who would say she only had wizard friends.

112. But Molly Weasley was having none of it.

Warner Bros.
“Not my daughter, you bitch! And certainly not the image of witches you perpetuate!”

113. Hermione had figured out the source of Voldemort’s power, the one thing he couldn’t live without.

Warner Bros.
His snake.

114. Using Ron as bait, Hermione cornered it.

Warner Bros.
She needed to get the timing just right.

115. She’d given Neville the most important job, because good leadership is about good delegation, and he arrived right on schedule, cutting the head off Voldemort’s snake.

Warner Bros.
Just the tip, really.

116. With his snake dismembered, Voldemort crumbled away to nothing.

Warner Bros.
And took his archaic notions of gender roles and patriarchal values with him.

117. “Does this mean The Patriarchy is over?”

"Does this mean The Patriarchy is over?"

“Unfortunately no. Their figurehead is gone, yes, but the fight will continue. We need to weed out and destroy sexism in all its forms. Bitches got work to do.”

118. Hermione did just that. Instead of settling down and having kids like Harry did, she dedicated her life to wiping out sexism, in both the magic and Muggle world.
