The purpose of this assignment is to: Use the knowledge, understanding and skills developed in previous units to produce an independent media product based on a social or ethical issue of your choosing.

During this project you will undertake the following tasks:

1.     You will come up with an idea for an independent piece of media work on a theme of your choosing and produce a proposal for your piece.
2.     You will develop and plan your work.
3.     You will research inspirational work and techniques that relate to your chosen project
4.     You will identify the specific audience of your piece and conduct primary research to develop your work.
5.     You will create media production work that reflects your skills, planning and research.
6.     You will create a 1000 word evaluation.
7.     You will present your work appropriately and reflect on what you have learned during the project.





Task 1: Identifying your Theme and Creating your Proposal


a.    You will be producing a media piece that shows what you have learnt this year, use the list below to help you to decide on your subject (you may want to combine two or more elements):

b.    Once you have decided upon your theme you must then brainstorm ideas of what you will create using the skills you have learned on your course this year.

c.    You must now produce a 500 word proposal that includes the following information:

·         What theme you have chosen and why?
·         What mediums will you be using to crate your work?
·         Describe how you want your work to look.
·         Include images that have inspired you to help you describe your idea.
·         Describe what initial research, preproduction work and audience research you will undertake while completing this project.
·         Describe how you will present your final piece/Pieces.
·         Attach a completed schedule which describes in detail what you will undertake during the task and when.

Once you have had a proposal meeting with your tutor you will then be allowed to progress with your project if it is appropriate.



Task 2: Initial Research    

You will now conduct initial research into your chosen area, this research must be annotated and referenced, appropriate and support the development of your idea. Look at your proposal for guidance. ( you must produce a minimum of four pages)



Task 3: Planning and Audience research


  1. You must produce appropriate planning and draft evidence, this could consist of sketches, test shots, Photoshop experimentation, Story boards, Mock-ups, online tutorials and art techniques.

  1. Once you have produced a draft of your piece you will use it to conduct primary research to gain feedback from your target audience, this could take the form of a questionnaire, focus groups, online surveys and/or peer feedback, your primary research should include the following as a minimum:

·         Feedback from at least 10 people that fit into the demographic, socio-economic and Psycho graphic profile you have identified your work would be for.
·         Graphs or charts that show your results
·         A 300 word summary of your results
·         An ‘adjusted’ final piece which reflects your findings


Task 4: Final Piece

You must produce your final piece using your creative media skills and present it in a considered way that you have identified in your proposal including improvements from your research and development.
